Impressionism expressed the scientific meaning of “light” in artistic creation. The light color reflected by the luminous flux through the medium in the air became the concept of impressionists’ creation. After collecting the web imagination of global citizens about COVID_19, we trained the generative model and let the computer randomly synthesize it. We adjusted various parameters during the training process making the results such as Dou Jia, Monet, Renoir , their style paintings. Through this work the diffusion path of COVID_19 spreading the molecular of the virus through the air, just like the scattering phenomenon formed by light through the particles in the air. Color is exclusive to the humans’ world, and COVID_19 is also born with humans.

光在空氣中遇見微小粒子就會產生散射狀態,而空氣中充滿了氧和氮的分子,它們的大小甚至於比短波的波長還短,散射出來的光就都會在紫、藍、綠的範圍。當藍光波段的光已經在前面被散射殆盡了,就會剩下紅、橙、黃的顏色。『光』在藝術中的角色於印象派之前,著重在物體形象的塑造,或是宗教性與精神性的象徵意義。印象派則是將『光』科學性的實證意義表達在藝術創作上,光通量透過空氣中的介質反射的光色成為印象派創作的立論基礎。我們試著在網路世界中蒐集全球公民對於COVID_19在顯微鏡下的具象想像,將圖片建立資料庫後,訓練生成模型讓電腦隨機合成。我們利用GAN生成出印象派(莫內、雷諾瓦)的風格畫作, 以強調空氣介質與色彩,病毒之間的時空關係。 希望透過本作品傳達COVID_19透過空氣傳播病毒分子量的漫射途徑,如同光透過空氣中的微粒介質形成的散射現象,我們在畫中看到的繽紛世界,代表著地球種族平等,我們無一倖免這場浩劫。色彩為人類世界的專屬,COVID_19同樣伴隨人類而生。
Autthors
Yuan-Fu Yang is the Ph.D. student at National Tsing Hua University for his research on A.I. to enhance human creativity. He joined tsmc in 2006. Yang conducts research and production across fields such as defect inspection and yield prediction using deep learning techniques. Yang, himself, has been exploring the potential expansion of painting creativity through the AI and human experts.
Iuan Kai Fang is a Ph.D. student in National Tsing Hua University and got Master degree in lighting design from Parsons School of Design, NY. He has been engaged in interior design for nearly 20 years. His works have won numerous awards including Red Dot ,IF,etc. However, he just started to touch the field of AI Art . Currently, he is studying the technology of 2D single image automatic generates to a 3D model.
楊元福,出生於台灣台北市,目前就讀於國立清華大學博士班(AI組)。他主要研究人工智慧於人類創造力的提高。他於 2006 年加入台灣積體電路有限公司,近年來致力於利用深度學習技術於缺陷檢測和良率預測等半導體製造領域。此外,他本人一直在研究如何通過人工智能和人類專家之間的互動,以探索繪畫創造力的潛在發展。
房元凱,台灣清華大學跨院國際博士班生(科技藝術組),紐約Parsons 設計學院照明設計碩士,台灣中原大學室內設計碩士。從事室內設計工作將近二十年,作品獲得許多歐美國際獎項。近年開始接觸人工智慧藝術領域,目前正在研究單張影像轉換立體模型的自動生成技術。
